Tronadora is a district in the canton of Tilarán, provinces of Guanacaste. It lies on the west shore of Lake Arenal. Lake Arenal (Lago Arenal) is Costa Rica’s largest lake by area (about 85 km²).

  • The lake has seasonal variation in depth (roughly 30–60 m) and was enlarged significantly when the Sangregado Dam was built (in 1979), flooding old towns.

  • Elevation in the area (Tronadora) is around ~600–650 meters above sea level.

  • Weather: Because of the elevation and proximity to both lake and mountains, weather can be changeable. Mornings might be calm and misty; afternoons more sun or clouds. Bring layers.

  • Getting there: Tronadora is connected by road (Route 142) to Tejona and Tilarán. Tilarán is one of the larger towns nearby.

  • Stay & amenities: There are cabins, small lodgings, places with lake views. As it’s a quieter area, expect more modest infrastructure vs big resorts. Local grocery shops, restaurants in town, but fewer big amenities.

Welcome to your new Costa Rican home !!!
